Winnipeg Transit bus operator test: how to prepare

What the City asks for

The City of Winnipeg transit careers page lists, among other qualifications:

  • strong map reading skills and strong City of Winnipeg layout awareness
  • knowledge of City of Winnipeg landmarks and streets
  • driving and in-person customer service experience
  • a Manitoba Beginners Class 2 licence with air brake endorsement to apply

So practise three things: reading route maps, knowing traffic signs, and placing landmarks on the right streets. Your invitation to the written test tells you what your test covers. Follow it where it differs from this guide.

Learn the street, not just the name. Passengers ask “Which bus goes to St. Boniface Hospital?”, and the useful answer starts with Taché Avenue.

What licence do I need to apply?

The City of Winnipeg’s transit careers page lists a Manitoba Beginners Class 2 licence with air brake endorsement to apply, and says operators must be able to obtain and keep a full Class 2 licence with air brake endorsement. Check the current posting for the exact wording.
